Welcome to the Lawrence-Lawson LMC
When you visit, you will see that we have over 11,500 fiction, non-fiction, magazines and book/tape kits that you can borrow.
The library is open every day for student, parent and teacher check-outs. Students may stop in before or after school to look for great books to read. In addition to morning and afternoon check-out times, each class also visits the LMC weekly for a 30-minute library lesson and/or storytime. Teachers also send students down during the day.
If you have any questions or concerns about the LMC, please feel free to contact:

What's Up In LMC?
The Lawrence Lawson LMC is looking for volunteers to help out in the library. If you were interested, you would need to commit to a set time period every week to allow for scheduling. The position involves computer work, shelving, processing new books, organizing, straightening and dusting shelves. It may also include helping out with special projects or activities in the LMC. If you have some time to help out in the school, we would love to have you in the LMC. Please contact the office or Darla Schroeder at 269-3181 ext. 2028.

Did someone say,
"Kiss A Pig"
Students at Lawrence Lawson School were challenged to read books from Dan Gutman's Weird School series. For each book they read and correctly answered questions on, they were allowed a vote for the staff member they would like to "Kiss a Pig". The "Kiss a Pig" contest is actually a challenge in one of the books. On Tuesday, February 9th, the entire school will be visiting with the author, Dan Gutman, through Skype. Students will be asking him questions and we will bring in a real, live pig to be kissed! So far… our phy ed teacher, Ms. Barczak and our principal, Mr. Hall are in the running for the kissing. The students have been really excited and are reading up a storm! Keep it up!

What's happening in the LMC?
KINDERGARTENERS:
Are still working on earning their library license. It is a hard thing to achieve, as they have to remember many steps in the process of selecting a book from the shelves. We have had a few books returned damaged from the Kindergarteners. Please make an extra effort to work with your child on the responsibility of caring for a book from our LMC. Your child's class has been coming to the library weekly to hear great stories and learn about wonderful authors. We just finished an author study of Keiko Kasza. The kids really loved her books; they voted for their favorite and even graphed the results. Go, "Grandpa Toad's Secret!

FIRST GRADERS:
Just finished a great author study of Audrey Wood. During this unit, they worked on character, setting and story sequence. When you read with your child, remember to ask them questions such as who are the characters, where does it take place and what happened first, next, last? These are all great ways to make sure your child has comprehended the story. Our next author study will be Tedd Arnold. He has a fairly new series out that is called, Fly Guy. He has some other great books out and we will be exploring some of them including my personal favorite, Catalina Magdalena Hoopensteiner Wallendiner!
SECOND GRADERS:
Are still working on selecting "just right" books for reading. For library skills, we have begun working with the encyclopedias. We have talked about the reference section of the LMC and then how encyclopedias are a great first place to start research. They are browsing through the sets using the guidewords at the top of the pages and then answering questions after reading some of the text. Some are struggling with not having the answer given to them and actually having to read to find the answer. We will work with reference materials through the New Year.
THIRD GRADERS:
Have finished their fractured fairy tale unit and some of the classes are currently working with the LMC Director to make their stories into movies using Microsoft Photo Story 3. They are turning out wonderful and soon you will be able to see them on the teacher webpage. This grade also worked on brushing up on some of their skills such as using guidewords and the parts of a book before they took the WKCE test in early November.

BREAKFAST WITH BOOKS
Of course it has to be a snow day on the one day the LMC had planned their annual Breakfast with Books. Thank goodness we had made arrangements to have it the next day so the donuts didn't go to waste. We had over 100 people who braved the cold and snow to read with their child. My apologies for being a little late, (I am not a fan of driving in winter!) Thanks to all of you for coming and making reading with your child a priority! Hope to see you next year! :-)
