Welcome to Mrs. Frank's

2/3 Multi-Age Class

Our Class

It's March, but it doesn't feel much like spring yet.  I can't wait for warmer weather and for all of this snow to be gone!  Whether it's cold or not we are still very busy and learning a lot.

Dates at a Glance:

March 3: Early Dismissal

March 4: Math/Science Night 5:30-6:30, in the classroom

PTO meeting in the LMC @ 6:30

March 9: End of the trimester

March 18: Report cards come home

March 19: Play at Viterbo (info coming)

March 23 and March 25: Parent Teacher Conferences 3:30-6:30

Language Arts:

We are working on our theme, which is What's Cooking.  Some of the phonetic skills we will be learning are: prefixes, VCCV pattern words, words ending in le, helping and irregular verbs, and the use of commas.  Some of the comprehension strategies we will be using are: sequencing, using context clues, and predicting.

We are also continuing our work on the letters in cursive writing.

Math:

Grade 2 will be studying quadrilaterals and 2 digit subtraction with ungrouping.  Grade 3 is studying multiplication and division.

Health:

Each week your child will be bringing home a Health challenge that they should complete during that week to help them be healthier.  The month of March will focus on cleanliness of their bodies.  Please make sure you check for the challenge, each week, and return the signed form that your child completed the challenge.

Science:

We are finishing our unit on simple machines.  Our next unit will be space and the solar system.  Our culminating activity will be to do a report on a planet of their choice.  We will be using the Super 3 Research model and will be focusing on sentence fluency, one of the 6 traits, in their writing of the report.

Social Studies:

We will be studying other communities including: river, mountain, desert, and plain communities.
