Welcome to Mrs. Frank's

Our Class

I'm not sure where this year has gone, but we are definitely on the downhill side of it.  We will have an extremely busy end of the year.  The students will be having their end of the year assessments, which include: MAP tests (in progress), Rigby Reading level, Word Wall Word tests, and a writing assessment.

Language Arts:

Our final theme is What a Day, which includes stories about memorable days in people's lives.  We will be focusing on the reading strategies of: making judgments, cause and effect, categorizing and classifying.  Our phonetic strategies will include: prefixes, suffixes, subject pronouns, possessive pronouns, and object pronouns.

Your child has received the entire year Word Wall Word list.  They did an excellent job reading them, now we will be focusing on making sure we can spell them.  Please practice some every night for the next couple weeks.

Math:

Grade 2 will be finishing their unit on 3 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping and ungrouping.  They will also be studying measurement and fractions.  Grade 3 is continuing their work with fractions.

Health:

Each week your child will be bringing home a Health challenge that they should complete during that week to help them be healthier.  The month of May will focus on maintaining a healthy body through exercise.  Please make sure you check for the challenge, each week, and return the signed form that your child completed the challenge.

We will also be studying the respiratory and circulatory systems.

Science:

We finished our weather unit.  The students made great meteorologists.  Check out the web site to see pictures.  We are now studying the solar system.  They will be writing a research report on a planet of their choice.

Social Studies:

We will be reading maps.

We felt like the Easter Bunny coloring our Easter eggs.

For our weather unit, we were meteorologists.  We had to find out what the weather was like for our city, using the internet.  www.weather.com Then we made our weather map, on the smart board, and wrote our weather report. Finally we got to give the weather report to our class.
