ESL Program...(English as a Second Language) for ELL's...(English Language Learners)

Welcome!       ˇBienvenidos!

Hello and welcome to Lawrence Lawson Elementary School's ESL Program. In our program students learn and improve upon English skills in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. At Lawrence Lawson, English Language Learners participate in mainstream classes and receive scheduled ESL instruction based on each student's English language proficiency level and grade level. Students receive ESL instruction in a small group setting from one to five times a week for 30-60 minutes. Instruction varies from oral language and vocabulary development to literacy support as well as reinforcement of skills and objectives taught in the mainstream classroom.

Instruction for all ESL students is guided by the WIDA Consortium's English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards. For this information and further explanations please visit: http://wida.wceruw.org/standards/elp.aspx

Hi, my name is Mrs. Katie Kusilek, and I am the ESL teacher for Lawrence Lawson. I work with Latino students in grades Kindergarten through Third.  It is my goal to assist students in meeting their individual learning goals and to provide support for within their classrooms. I strive to provide opportunities for students to grow socially and culturally through language and instruction. I am dedicated to providing a safe and positive learning environment that enables students to construct meaning through my instructional strategies. I am encouraging and passionate about my students becoming independent, life-long learners and reaching their full potential.

Welcome Back!

Looking forward to a FUN year!

New this year - I am really excited to continue working with my 3rd graders from last year, who are now 4th graders over at Meadowview Intermediate. :)
